Katrín Jónsdóttir (born on May 31, 1977) is a former Icelandic footballer. She played as a defender for many years. Katrín was the captain of Iceland's national team from 2007 to 2013. She also played in two major tournaments, the 2009 and 2013 UEFA Women's Championships.

Playing for Clubs
Katrín had a very successful club career. She won the Úrvalsdeild kvenna (Icelandic top league) ten times. She also won the Icelandic Women's Football Cup six times and the Icelandic Women's Football Super Cup eight times. In Norway, she helped her team, Kolbotn, win the Toppserien (Norwegian top league) in 2002 and 2003.
Life as a Doctor and Player
While playing football in Norway for Kolbotn, Katrín also studied medicine. She finished her medical studies and became a practicing doctor. This shows she was talented both on and off the field!
Moving to Sweden
In January 2013, Katrín left the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF. She then signed a one-year contract to play for Umeå IK, another team in Sweden's top league, Damallsvenskan.
Playing for Iceland
Katrín played many games for her country, Iceland. She was a key player for the national team for almost two decades.
First International Game
In May 1994, Katrín played her first game for the senior Iceland team. It was a friendly game against Scotland, which Iceland won 4–1.
UEFA Women's Euro Tournaments
Katrín played in the UEFA Women's Euro 2009 tournament. She played in all three of Iceland's matches. Unfortunately, Iceland was eliminated in the first round after losing to France, Norway, and Germany.
She was also chosen by the national team coach, Siggi Eyjólfsson, to play in the UEFA Women's Euro 2013 tournament. There, she played in all three group matches. Iceland made it to the quarter-finals but lost 4–0 to the host country, Sweden.
Personal Life
Katrín is married to Þorvaldur, who was also a professional footballer. He even played for the Iceland national football team. They got married in August 2009, just before Katrín played in the UEFA Women's Euro 2009.

Katrín received several awards for her excellent football skills and contributions.
Individual Awards
- Icelandic Women's Footballer of the Year: She won this award in 1998, recognizing her as the best female footballer in Iceland.
- Úrvalsdeild Player of the Year: In 2009, she was named the best player in Iceland's top league.
- Athlete of Reykjavík: She was honored as the top athlete in her hometown of Reykjavík in 2008.
- Most promising football player of the year in Iceland: This award was given to her in 1997, showing her early talent.
