Katrín Jónsdóttir, born on May 31, 1977, is a famous former football player from Iceland. She played as a defender, which means her job was to stop the other team from scoring goals. Katrín was the captain of Iceland's national women's football team for many years, from 2007 to 2013. She even led her team in big tournaments like the UEFA Women's Euro in 2009 and 2013.

Playing for Clubs
Katrín had an amazing career playing for different football clubs. She won the top Icelandic league, called Úrvalsdeild kvenna, ten times! She also won the Icelandic Women's Football Cup six times and the Icelandic Women's Football Super Cup eight times.
Playing in Norway
While playing for Kolbotn in Norway, Katrín also finished her medical studies. This means she became a doctor while being a professional footballer! She won the Norwegian top league, Toppserien, in 2002 and 2003 with Kolbotn.
Later Club Years
In January 2013, Katrín left the Swedish club Djurgårdens IF. She then signed a one-year contract to play for Umeå IK, another team in Sweden.
Playing for Iceland
Katrín started playing for the senior Iceland national team in May 1994. Her first game was a friendly match against Scotland, which Iceland won 4–1.
Euro Tournaments
Katrín played in all three matches for Iceland at the UEFA Women's Euro 2009. Unfortunately, Iceland was knocked out in the first round after losing to France, Norway, and Germany.
The national team coach, Siggi Eyjólfsson, chose Katrín for the UEFA Women's Euro 2013 squad. She played in all three group matches there. Her team then lost 4–0 to the host country, Sweden, in the quarter-finals.
Personal Life
Katrín is married to Þorvaldur, who was also a professional football player for the Iceland national football team. They got married in August 2009, just before Katrín played in the UEFA Women's Euro tournament that year.
