Joining Reading F.C.

On 7 June 2005, Doyle signed a two-year deal with Reading. He moved from Cork City for about €117,000 (around £78,000). He was originally signed as a back-up player. However, injuries to other players gave him a chance to play. He kept his spot by scoring many important goals.
