Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu (born April 19, 1990) is a famous Filipino actress and singer. She is known for her many roles in movies and TV shows. Kim became very popular after winning the first teen edition of Pinoy Big Brother, a reality TV show.
Her movies have earned a lot of money, making her one of the most successful Filipino movie stars. In 2020, Forbes Asia recognized her as one of the most influential Filipino people in Asia. People often call her the "Multimedia Idol" because she is good at many things.
Kim started her career playing smaller roles in TV shows. She became a big star when she was paired with Gerald Anderson. They starred together in popular shows like Sana Maulit Muli (2007) and Tayong Dalawa (2009). Later, she took on more serious and funny roles.
She has been in many successful movies such as The Healing (2012) and Bride for Rent (2014). Her TV shows include My Binondo Girl (2011) and Ikaw Lamang (2014). Recently, she starred in Linlang (2023) and What’s Wrong with Secretary Kim (2024).
Kim has won many awards for her acting and singing. Her music albums have also been very successful, selling enough copies to be certified Gold or Platinum. Kim's Early Life and Family
Kimberly Sue Yap Chiu was born on April 19, 1990. She is the fourth of five children. Her father, William Chiu, is a Chinese businessman from Mindoro. Her mother, Louella, was from Dinagat Islands and later moved to Surigao del Sur, Philippines.
Kim speaks Cebuano, Tagalog, and English very well. She also knows a little bit of Waray, Hokkien, and Mandarin Chinese.
After her parents separated in 1998, Kim and her siblings (Lakam, Twinkle, William, and John Paul) were raised by their grandmother. They moved around a lot in the Visayas region of the Philippines. They lived in places like Tacloban, Leyte, Cebu, Cagayan de Oro, and General Santos before settling back in Cebu City in 2006.
In 2013, Kim reconnected with her father after five years. A month later, her mother, Louella, sadly passed away due to a brain aneurysm. Kim shared that her mother is now like an angel guiding her.
Kim's Amazing Career Journey
Starting Out: From Reality TV to Stardom (2006–2008)
Kim Chiu first became famous when she won Pinoy Big Brother: Teen Edition. To join the show, she left her hometown of Cebu City and moved to Manila. She entered the Big Brother house on April 23, 2006. After 42 days, she was named the Teen Big Winner. She received 41.4% of all the votes and was the only housemate who was never nominated to leave.
After winning, Kim joined Star Magic, a talent agency. She and her on-screen partner, Gerald Anderson, became regular performers on ASAP XV. They also appeared in several ABS-CBN shows like Love Spell and the movie First Day High.
In 2007, Kim and Gerald starred in the TV series Sana Maulit Muli. This show was very popular. That same year, Kim won awards like "Most Promising Female Star." Her album, "Gwa Ai Di" (which means "I Love You" in Hokkien), became a Gold Record.
Kim continued to gain recognition for her acting. She starred in the movie I've Fallen For You and appeared in many commercials. In 2008, she was cast in the Philippine version of the South Korean TV series My Girl.
Becoming a Top Actress (2009–2011)
In 2009, Kim proved herself as a top actress in the hit TV series Tayong Dalawa. She won several acting awards for her role as Audrey.
Her movie I Love You, Goodbye was part of the 2009 Metro Manila Film Festival. In this film, Kim played a villain for the first time. The movie earned over P100 million, and she received nominations for her performance.
In 2010, she starred in the romance film Paano Na Kaya. She also appeared in the popular drama Kung Tayo'y Magkakalayo. This show was the highest-rated TV series in the Philippines that year. In October 2010, Kim and Gerald Anderson worked together for the last time in the movie Till My Heartaches End.
Kim also had her own weekly musical show called Your Song Presents: Kim. In 2011, she starred in the romantic-comedy TV series My Binondo Girl with Xian Lim.
Movies and Big Success (2012–Present)
In 2012, Kim starred in the horror film The Healing with Vilma Santos. She played a woman who gets cured but then faces a curse. Her role earned her many nominations for Best Supporting Actress.
Kim also returned to drama with Ina, Kapatid, Anak. This show was very popular and won "Best Teleserye of the Year" in 2013. Her acting in it also won her an award for "Best TV Drama Actress."
In 2013, she starred in the movie Bakit Hindi Ka Crush Ng Crush Mo?. This was her first time playing a comedic role, and critics loved her performance.
In January 2014, Kim had a huge hit with the romantic-comedy movie Bride for Rent. The film earned over P21.2 million on its first day and quickly reached P200 million. It became one of the highest-grossing Filipino films ever. This movie showed that Kim was one of the country's biggest stars.
After her successful movies, Kim returned to TV in the 2014 drama Ikaw Lamang. The show was very popular and won "Best Primetime Drama Series." She also played Mulan for Walt Disney Asia's "12 Days of Princess" campaign.

Kim's Personal Life
Kim Chiu dated her former on-screen partner, Gerald Anderson, from 2006 to 2010. She then had a relationship with her leading man, Xian Lim, starting in 2012. They were together for over ten years before separating in 2023.
On March 4, 2020, while on her way to a TV show taping, Kim's van was shot at by two unidentified gunmen. Luckily, Kim and her companions were not hurt. Investigators thought it might have been a case of mistaken identity. Later, someone claiming to be the actual target apologized to one of her bosses.
As one of the highest-paid endorsers in the Philippines, Kim has spoken about important issues. In 2013, she talked about how much tax celebrities pay and how important it is for the government to use that money properly. The Bureau of Internal Revenue confirmed she was one of the top taxpayers in the country that year.
In 2015, Kim passed the entrance exam for the University of the Philippines and enrolled in their online program for business courses.

Helping Others
Kim Chiu uses her fame to support many good causes. She has worked with GSK for yearly asthma awareness campaigns, called Win Against Asthma. This is because she had asthma as a child.
Kim has also helped disaster relief groups like the Philippine National Red Cross. She joined a PETA campaign to help Mali, an elephant, be moved to a sanctuary. In 2012, she helped lead a relief effort in Marikina. Kim was very involved in helping victims of Typhoon Yolanda through the Red Cross. She even held online auctions to raise money for those affected.
It was also shared that Kim regularly helps fund Isla Pulo, a community of 1,000 people in Manila Bay who need assistance.
Kim's Businesses
In October 2022, Kim Chiu launched her own bag business called House of Little Bunny Philippines. It is an online store that sells handbags.
In 2023, it was revealed that Kim owns a commercial building in Cagayan de Oro.
