Kostas Antetokounmpo (born November 20, 1997) is a professional basketball player. He plays for Olympiacos in Greece. He is part of both the Greek Basketball League and the EuroLeague.
Kostas played college basketball for the Dayton Flyers. In the 2018 NBA draft, he was picked 60th overall by the Philadelphia 76ers. His draft rights were then traded to the Dallas Mavericks. A big moment in his career was winning an NBA championship with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020.
Kostas comes from a family of basketball stars. His brothers Giannis, Thanasis, and Alex are also professional basketball players.

About Kostas and His Family
Kostas Antetokounmpo was born in Sepolia, a neighborhood in Athens, Greece. His parents were immigrants from Nigeria. His father, Charles, used to play professional soccer. His mother, Veronica, was a high jumper. Charles passed away in 2017.
Kostas's parents came from different groups in Nigeria. His father was Yoruba, and his mother is Igbo. Kostas received a Nigerian passport in 2013. This helped him get a visa to enter the United States. He officially became a full Greek citizen in 2016.
He is the younger brother of famous basketball players Giannis and Thanasis. He is also the older brother of Alex. His oldest brother, Francis, plays professional soccer. Kostas started playing basketball with junior teams in Athens.
High School Basketball Journey
After his older brother Giannis was drafted by the Milwaukee Bucks in 2013, Kostas and his family moved to Milwaukee. He went to Dominican High School in Whitefish Bay, Wisconsin. He played high school basketball there for two years. In his final year, he helped his team win a state championship.
College Basketball Experience
After high school, Kostas went on to play college basketball at the University of Dayton. In his first year, the 2016–17 season, he did not play in games. This is called being "red-shirted." It was because he had spent his first two years of high school in Greece.
He started playing in the 2017–18 season. He played about 15 minutes per game. He averaged 5.2 points, 2.9 rebounds, and 1.1 blocks per game.
Professional Basketball Career
Starting with the Dallas Mavericks (2018–2019)
Kostas decided to enter the 2018 NBA draft on March 22, 2018. He was one of many players to attend the NBA Draft Combine. He was picked last in the draft by the Philadelphia 76ers. Right after, he was traded to the Dallas Mavericks.
On July 13, he signed a special "two-way contract." This meant he would play for both the Mavericks and their minor league team, the Texas Legends. While playing for the Legends, he averaged 12.3 points and 7 rebounds per game. He was even nicknamed "Mr Fantastic" by a radio announcer! Kostas made his first NBA appearance on March 20, 2019. The Mavericks later let him go on July 19, 2019.
Winning with the Los Angeles Lakers (2019–2021)
The Los Angeles Lakers picked up Kostas on July 22, 2019. He played 5 games for them during the season. He scored a career-high 7 points in a game on August 13, 2020.
Kostas won his first championship when the Lakers beat the Miami Heat in 2020. He became the first Greek-born player to win an NBA championship. His brothers Giannis and Thanasis won their own championships the next season. Kostas signed another two-way contract with the Lakers in November 2020.
Playing in Europe (2021–Present)
After his time with the Lakers, Kostas moved to Europe.
- ASVEL (2021–2022): On July 16, 2021, he joined ASVEL Villeurbanne in France. This team plays in the French LNB Pro A and the EuroLeague. In 26 EuroLeague games, he averaged 5.8 points and 2.6 rebounds.
- Chicago Bulls (2022): He signed a two-way contract with the Chicago Bulls in October 2022. However, he did not play any NBA games for them and was waived in December 2022.
- Fenerbahçe (2022–2023): On December 19, 2022, Kostas signed with Fenerbahçe Beko in Turkey. He played 14 EuroLeague games for them. He left the club in June 2023.
- Panathinaikos (2023–2025): He signed a two-year contract with Panathinaikos in Greece on June 22, 2023. His brother Thanasis had played for this team before. He left Panathinaikos in February 2025.
- Murcia (2025): Kostas played for the Spanish club Murcia to finish the 2024–2025 season.
- Olympiacos (2025–present): On July 10, 2025, Kostas signed a two-year contract with Olympiacos in Greece.
Playing for Greece
Greek Junior Team
Kostas played for the junior Greek Under-20 national team. He won a bronze medal at the 2016 FIBA Europe Under-20 Championship Division B.
Greek Senior Team
He has also played for the main Greek national team. He played in the 2020 Victoria FIBA World Olympic Qualifying Tournament and at the EuroBasket 2022.
