Besides cricket, Kyle was also good at basketball. He even played as a point guard at the New Zealand Breakers academy. But in the end, he chose cricket. He was a very good fast bowler, which helped him make that choice.
Kyle's Cricket Journey
Kyle is known for being a right-arm fast-medium bowler. He is also a useful batsman who can score runs lower down the batting order. He is very tall, standing at six feet eight inches. This makes him the tallest person to ever play international cricket for New Zealand.
Starting as a Bowler
Kyle first started as a batting all-rounder. This means he was good at both batting and bowling. But in 2012, he began to focus more on bowling. He learned a lot from his bowling coach, Dayle Hadlee. Dayle is the brother of the famous cricketer Richard Hadlee.
Kyle made his first Twenty20 match appearance on December 4, 2016. He played for the Canterbury team in the 2016–17 Super Smash tournament. In June 2018, he signed a contract to play for Canterbury for the 2018–19 season.
Amazing Bowling Records
On January 1, 2019, Kyle had an incredible game. He was playing for the Auckland Aces against the Canterbury Kings. In this 2018–19 Super Smash match, he took six wickets for only seven runs. This was the best bowling performance ever in a T20 match in New Zealand. It was also the third-best performance in T20 history worldwide! He ended up being the top wicket-taker in that Super Smash season. He got 22 wickets in ten matches.
International Debut and Success
In December 2019, Kyle joined New Zealand's Test team. This was for their series against Australia. He didn't play in that series, but his chance came soon.
