Music Career Journey
Starting with Hear'Say
Before joining a band, Kym sang for other artists, including Matt Darey and Hemstock & Jennings. One song she sang, "Arctic," was later remixed and became "Nothing But You," which reached number 14 in the UK charts.
In late 2000, Kym tried out for the TV talent show Popstars. She was chosen as one of the five singers for the new band Hear'Say. The other members were Danny Foster, Myleene Klass, Suzanne Shaw, and Noel Sullivan. In March 2001, Hear'Say released their first song, "Pure and Simple." It quickly went to number one on the UK Singles Chart, selling almost 550,000 copies.
The group's second song, "The Way to Your Love," also became a number one hit in June 2001. After this, the band went on a tour across the UK. In January 2002, Kym announced she was leaving Hear'Say. The group looked for a new singer, but they eventually broke up in October 2002.
Kym's Solo Music
After leaving Hear'Say, Kym signed a solo record deal with Island Records. Her first solo song, "Cry," reached number 2 in the UK Singles Chart. Her second song, "Come on Over," made it to number 10.
In July 2003, Kym released her first solo album, Standing Tall. It reached number 9 in the UK. However, her third song, "Sentimental," only reached number 35, and she was later dropped by her record label. In 2006, Kym tried to represent the UK in the Eurovision Song Contest with her song "Whisper to Me" on the show Making Your Mind Up. She finished in fourth place.
