L'Abergement is a small town, also called a municipality, in the Jura-North Vaudois District in the Vaud area of Switzerland. As of 2004, about 243 people lived there. The town is known for its beautiful location at the foot of the Jura Mountains.

Geography of L'Abergement
L'Abergement covers an area of about 5.8 square kilometers (2.2 square miles). A large part of this land is covered by forests, making up about 55.2% of the area. About 39.8% of the land is used for farming. This includes fields for crops, pastures for animals, and even some alpine pastures.
A smaller part, about 5.7%, is developed with buildings and roads. This includes homes and transportation routes.
Before August 31, 2006, L'Abergement was part of the Orbe District. After that, it became part of the newer Jura-North Vaudois District. The town itself is a long village, and it also includes a small settlement called Vailloud.

The coat of arms for L'Abergement has a special design. It shows a black wolf standing on its hind legs, with a red tongue. In the top left corner, there is a black fence. This design is called Or, a Wolf rampant Sable langued Gules, in chief sinister a Fence of the second.
Population and People
L'Abergement has a population of about 243 people. In 2008, about 9.5% of the people living there were foreign nationals. Over ten years, from 1999 to 2009, the population grew by about 10.2%. This growth was partly due to people moving in and partly from births.
Most people in L'Abergement speak French, with about 96.6% of the population using it. A smaller number of people speak German (2.1%) or Italian (0.4%).
In 2009, the population included many young people. About 13.7% were children aged 0 to 9, and 18.5% were teenagers aged 10 to 19. Adults aged 20 to 59 made up a large part of the population. Older adults, aged 60 and above, made up about 15.7% of the population.
In 2000, there were 82 households in L'Abergement, with an average of 2.9 people per home. About 16.9% of households had only one person. Most homes were single-family houses, making up 60% of all inhabited buildings.

Economy and Jobs
In 2010, L'Abergement had a low unemployment rate of 1.7%. This means most people who wanted to work had jobs.

Education System
Education is important in L'Abergement. About 33.6% of the population has finished non-mandatory high school education. Also, 12.3% have gone on to higher education, like a university.
In the 2009/2010 school year, L'Abergement had 49 students in its school district. In the Vaud area, children can attend two years of non-required pre-school. The main school program for primary school lasts four years, and there were 30 students in this program. After that, students attend lower secondary school for six years; 19 students were in these schools.
In 2000, 10 students came to L'Abergement for school from other towns. However, more students from L'Abergement (44 of them) went to schools outside the municipality.
