Discovering Baulmes: A Look at Its Past
Baulmes has a long history! It was first mentioned way back in the year 652. At that time, it was known as in loco Balmensi. Later, in 1123, it was called Balmis.

Baulmes covers an area of about 22.5 square kilometers (about 8.7 square miles). A large part of this land, about 40%, is used for farming. Even more, about 55%, is covered by forests.
The town itself, with its buildings and roads, takes up about 4% of the land. A small amount, less than 1%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The rest is land that isn't used for farming or building.
Baulmes is nestled at the edge of the Jura Mountains, right on the border with France. It sits on the land built up by the Baumine river.
