Professional NFL Career
Washington Redskins (2007–2011)
The Washington Redskins picked Landry early in the 2007 NFL draft. He signed a five-year contract worth $41.5 million.
He immediately became the starting strong safety. He played alongside free safety Sean Taylor, and fans called them "Area 51" because their jersey numbers were 21 and 30. Landry became known for his powerful tackles. In his first year, he started all 16 games and was chosen as an alternate for the Pro Bowl, an all-star game for the NFL's best players.

Over the next few seasons, Landry was a key part of the Redskins' defense. In 2010, he played so well that his coach, Mike Shanahan, said he could have been the defensive player of the year if he hadn't gotten injured. Injuries to his Achilles tendon and hamstring caused him to miss many games in 2010 and 2011. After the 2011 season, Landry and the Redskins decided to part ways.
New York Jets (2012)
In 2012, Landry signed a one-year contract with the New York Jets. He had a fantastic season, setting new personal records with 100 tackles and four forced fumbles. He also scored his first career touchdown after an interception against the Miami Dolphins.
His great performance earned him a spot in the 2013 Pro Bowl, his first time being selected for the main team.
Indianapolis Colts (2013–2014)
In 2013, Landry signed a four-year, $24 million contract with the Indianapolis Colts. He played for two seasons with the team. In 2013, he recorded 87 tackles in 12 games.
In 2014, Landry was suspended for four games for breaking the NFL's policy on player health. The Colts released him in February 2015. After his release, he received further suspensions for again breaking league rules, which led to an indefinite ban from the NFL.
Personal Life
Landry's older brother, Dawan Landry, also had a successful career as an NFL safety. Because of his muscular body, his teammates on the Redskins nicknamed him "Iron Man." Fans also called him "Dirty 30" because of his jersey number and his aggressive, hard-hitting style of play. For a while, Landry even had a pet monkey, a white-faced capuchin named Gucci.
