Elance Antonio Frazier (born May 23, 1981) is a former American football player. He played as a cornerback, a defensive position, for several teams. These included the Baltimore Ravens and Dallas Cowboys in the National Football League (NFL). He also played for the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL). Before becoming a professional, he played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers.

Early Life and High School Football

Lance Frazier grew up in Boca Raton, Florida. He went to Spanish River High School. There, he was a key player on the football team for three years. He played both wingback (an offensive position) and cornerback (a defensive position). He was also involved in track.

In 1997, when he was a sophomore, Lance helped his team, the Sharks, reach the playoffs for the first time ever. He played alongside Jason Geathers, who later became a professional football player. By his senior year, Lance was a top player. He earned honors like All-county and All-area. He finished his high school career with impressive stats. He had 1,550 rushing yards and 15 rushing touchdowns. On defense, he made 100 tackles and had 10 interceptions.

College Football Career

Lance Frazier earned a football scholarship to West Virginia University. As a freshman, he had 27 tackles and 2 interceptions. He also broke up 9 passes. In his sophomore year, he became a regular player at right cornerback. He made 49 tackles and forced 3 fumbles.

During his junior year, he became the main starter at right cornerback. He recorded 49 tackles and was recognized for his important contributions to the team. As a senior, he was chosen as one of the team captains. He had 61 tackles, 5 interceptions, and 4 forced fumbles. He also set a school record for punt returns, averaging 23.5 yards per return.

Overall, in his college career, Lance had 186 tackles and 7 interceptions. He also broke up 37 passes, which is the second-highest in his school's history. He was a good student too, making the Athletic Director's Academic Honor Roll. He earned a degree in Physical Education.

Professional Football Journey

Starting in the NFL

After college, Lance Frazier was not chosen in the 2004 NFL draft. However, the Baltimore Ravens signed him as an undrafted free agent on April 30, 2004. He was later released but then joined their practice squad.

On October 12, 2004, the Dallas Cowboys signed him from the Ravens' practice squad. They needed more players because of injuries to their cornerbacks. Lance ended up starting eight of the last nine games for the Cowboys. He recorded 38 tackles, two interceptions, and one fumble recovery. His punt return average was among the best in the National Football Conference (NFC) for rookies. He was released by the Cowboys in August 2005.

Playing in Other Leagues

Lance Frazier also played in other football leagues. In October 2005, he signed with the Tampa Bay Storm in the Arena Football League. However, he never played a regular season game for them.

In 2006, he signed with the Seattle Seahawks. They sent him to play for the Cologne Centurions in NFL Europe. There, he was a starting cornerback and made 27 tackles and one interception.

Success in the CFL

In October 2006, Lance Frazier joined the Saskatchewan Roughriders in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He played one game that season.

In 2007, he became a key player for the Roughriders. He started 12 games and helped his team win the Grey Cup championship. The Grey Cup is the CFL's biggest championship game.

He continued to play well in 2008, leading his team with 5 interceptions. In 2009, he was named a CFL West Division All-star. He continued to be a strong defensive player for the Roughriders until he was released in June 2012, after six seasons with the team.

Life After Playing Football

After his playing career, Lance Frazier became involved in high school sports. He works as an athletic director administrative assistant at Kennett High School in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania.

In 2018, he became the head football coach for Kennett High School. In his first year, he led the team to their first-ever playoff appearance. In 2019-2020, he guided the team to a great 9–1 regular season record and their first two playoff wins. Because of his success, he was named the Pennsylvania Football Coach of the Year by the National Federation of High Schools.
