Lar (Persian: لار) is a city in Iran. It is located in the Fars province. Lar is the main city of Larestan County. People who live here are called Larestani people.

How Many People Live in Lar?
In 2006, about 52,000 people lived in Lar. By 2011, this number grew to over 65,000. The latest count in 2016 showed about 62,000 residents.
Lar's Story: A Look Back
Lar got its name from a hero. This hero is from a famous old Persian book called the Shahnameh.
Hundreds of years ago, in the 1500s and 1600s, Lar was an important stop. It was on the main road to the Persian Gulf.
Many Larestani people moved to Arab countries in the Persian Gulf. This happened around the 1600s. They went to places like Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, and Kuwait. Some families there still have "Lari" or "Al Lari" as part of their last name.

Lar has a hot desert climate. This means it is usually very hot and dry. Snowfall is very rare in Lar. In fact, it snowed in February 2017 for the first time in 50 years!

How Lar City Is Built
Lar city is split into two main parts:
- The New City, called Shahr-e Jadid.
- The Old City, called Shahr-e Qadim.
The New City was built after a big earthquake in 1960. Most people live here now. It has modern roads and buildings.
The Old City has the Bazaar of Qaisariye. This market was built even before the Safavid dynasty. It was suggested to become a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2007.
Getting Around Lar
Lar has a modern expressway. This road connects Lar to a police station near Gerash. It helps people travel easily between the cities.
Lar also has an airport. You can take flights from here every day. These flights go to cities in Iran like Tehran. They also go to other countries like Dubai, Kuwait, Doha, and Sharjah.
