College Football Career
Playing for Southern Mississippi
In 2004, Webb started his college football journey at the University of Southern Mississippi. During his first year, he played in all 12 games for the Golden Eagles. In his second year, he was one of the team's top tacklers.
Transferring to Nicholls State
Webb moved to Nicholls State University in 2007. In his very first game with the Colonels, he made three interceptions, even running one back for a touchdown! Later that season, his coaches decided to let him play quarterback too, since he had done so well in high school. In his first game as a quarterback, he ran for 120 yards and scored a touchdown.
After the season, Webb was recognized as a first-team All-American. He is the only player in NCAA Division I history to win Offensive Player of the Week, Defensive Player of the Week, and Special Teams Player of the Week awards in the same season.
Professional Football Career
Joining the Baltimore Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens picked Lardarius Webb in the third round of the 2009 NFL draft. He was the 88th player chosen overall.
2009 Season
Webb quickly became the Ravens' main kick returner. In one game, he returned a kickoff 95 yards for a touchdown! Sadly, later that season, he got a serious knee injury that ended his rookie year early. Even though he only played part of the season, he showed he was a strong cornerback and a good tackler. He finished with 35 tackles and returned 35 kickoffs for over 900 yards.
2010 Season
In 2010, Webb got his first career interception against the Miami Dolphins. He ended the season with 54 tackles and two interceptions. People praised him for how well he defended against long passes.
2011 Season
In 2011, Webb became a full-time starter due to injuries on the team. He played incredibly well, catching five interceptions during the season. He even ran one interception back 73 yards for a touchdown against the New York Jets! He was the only starting defensive back that season who didn't allow a single touchdown. He also returned a punt for a 68-yard touchdown against the Cleveland Browns. Webb said his great play was because he had fully recovered from his knee injury and worked hard to get stronger. He finished the season with 68 tackles and led the team with five interceptions. He also had three more interceptions in the playoffs.
2012 Season
Before the 2012 season, Webb signed a big contract extension with the Ravens. He started the year strong, but unfortunately, he tore his ACL again in Week 6, which ended his season. Even without Webb, the Ravens went on to win Super Bowl XLVII, beating the San Francisco 49ers 34-31.
Later Seasons (2013-2017)
Webb returned in 2013 and continued to be an important player for the Ravens. He caught two interceptions that season. In 2014 and 2015, he played in most games, recording an interception in each season and making many tackles.
In 2016, Webb changed his position from cornerback to free safety. He continued to play for the Ravens until he was released in March 2018. In his final season in 2017, he had two more interceptions, helping the Ravens win games.
