Le Chenit is a town in Switzerland. It is located in the Vaud area, which is like a state or canton. You can find it in the Jura-Nord Vaudois district, deep in the beautiful Vallée de Joux valley.

Le Chenit was first written about in the year 1489. Back then, it was called Chinit. This shows the town has a long history!

Le Chenit is a large area, covering about 99.25 square kilometers (38.3 square miles). A big part of this land, about 66.4%, is covered by forests. About 28.7% is used for farming.

Only a small part, about 3.1%, has buildings or roads. There are also rivers and lakes, making up 0.2% of the area. Some land, 1.7%, is not used for anything.

Le Chenit is in the heart of the Jura Mountains. It sits right on the border between France and Switzerland. It's the biggest town in the upper part of the Vallée de Joux.

The area includes several villages like Le Brassus, Le Sentier, and L'Orient. There are also many smaller communities called hamlets. Interestingly, there isn't a main village actually named Le Chenit within the municipality itself.
