Linda Vista is a community in San Diego, California, United States. Its name means "Pretty View" in Spanish. This area is located east of Mission Bay. It is also north of Mission Valley.
Linda Vista sits on a high flat area called a mesa. From here, you can see Mission Valley to the south. You can also see Mission Bay and the Pacific Ocean to the west. The University of San Diego is also located here.
The community of Linda Vista is split between two City Council districts. Most of the neighborhood is in District 7. The area around the University of San Diego is in District 2.

History of Linda Vista
There was an older settlement called Linda Vista that started in 1886. It was probably near San Clemente Canyon. This early settlement was badly damaged by a big flood in 1916 and no longer exists.
Building Homes for War Workers
Many homes in Linda Vista were built quickly between 1940 and 1941. This was part of a government plan to house people working on aircraft for World War II. A large construction project helped build over 3,000 houses. These homes were finished in just 200 days, starting in October 1941.
San Diego's First Shopping Mall
The Linda Vista Shopping Center was built in 1943. It was the first shopping mall in San Diego. It was also one of the first in the entire country. The mall was known for its special design, inspired by the garden city idea. A department store called Walker Scott was a main store there. The shopping center was later taken down in 1972.
Vietnamese Community in Linda Vista
Starting in the late 1970s, many Vietnamese immigrants and refugees moved to Linda Vista. This happened after the Vietnam War and the Fall of Saigon. Their arrival had a big effect on the community. Many Vietnamese families still live in Linda Vista today.
Tank Incident of 1995
On May 17, 1995, a large military tank was taken from an armory in Linda Vista. The tank then moved through the streets of Linda Vista. It also traveled north into Kearny Mesa.
This 57-ton tank caused a lot of damage. It ran over road signs, traffic lights, and utility poles. It also crushed about forty parked cars. The damage to utility poles caused a power outage for over 5,000 customers in Linda Vista.
