Linn Creek is a small city in Camden County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, about 216 people lived there.
What's interesting about Linn Creek is that the original town is now underwater! It used to be the main town, or county seat, for Camden County. But then, a big lake called the Lake of the Ozarks was created. This happened when the Bagnell Dam was built, starting in 1929. The old town was flooded, and a new town, Camdenton, became the county seat in 1931. The Linn Creek you see today was built on higher ground.

History of Linn Creek
Linn Creek has a fascinating history, with an old town that disappeared and a new one that rose in its place.
Old Linn Creek: A River Hub
The first Linn Creek town was started in 1841. It was located where the Niangua and Osage Rivers met. The town got its name from a nearby creek. This creek had many linn trees (also known as basswood trees) growing along its banks.
Because it was on the Osage River, Linn Creek became a very important place for transportation. Boats could travel up the river to Linn Creek, making it a major center for trade and travel in southwest Missouri.
In 1855, Linn Creek became the county seat of Camden County. This happened after a serious illness affected many people in the previous county seat, Erie.
During the American Civil War, a small fight happened near Linn Creek on October 14, 1861. Union soldiers fought against Confederates in this skirmish.
A local newspaper, The Linn Creek Reveille, was started in 1879 by J. W. Vincent. He published it until he passed away in 1933.
Modern Linn Creek: The Miracle City
In 1929, a big announcement changed everything for Old Linn Creek. It was decided that the Bagnell Dam would be built. This dam would create the Lake of the Ozarks, and the old town of Linn Creek would be flooded. This news caused a lot of discussion among the people living there.
Most of the buildings in the old town had to be taken down. The entire town was then moved to a higher spot. This new location used to be a small settlement called Easterville. When the town moved, it also lost its role as the county seat.
People often called the new town "New Linn Creek." The local Chamber of Commerce even promoted it as "The Miracle City." This name showed how the town managed to rebuild and thrive after such a big change.
