Cities with Skyscrapers

Five cities in Australia currently have at least one skyscraper. Most of these are capital cities, except for the Gold Coast in Queensland.

Sydney was the first Australian city to build a skyscraper in 1967. Then came Melbourne in 1972. Later, Brisbane and Perth got their first tall buildings in 1988. The Gold Coast was the most recent, building its first skyscraper in 2005.

Most of Australia's skyscrapers are found in the Eastern states (Queensland, New South Wales, and Victoria). A smaller number are in Perth, the capital of Western Australia. Since the 1970s, Sydney and Melbourne have always had the most skyscrapers.

Some other capital cities in Australia do not have any skyscrapers at all. These include Adelaide in South Australia, Hobart in Tasmania, Darwin in the Northern Territory, and Australia's capital, Canberra in the Australian Capital Territory.
