Little Merrill Lake is a beautiful lake located in Ontario, Canada. It's found in a place called Addington Highlands, which is part of Lennox and Addington County. This lake is an important part of a larger water system that eventually flows into Lake Ontario, one of the Great Lakes!

Discovering Little Merrill Lake

Little Merrill Lake is a natural body of water that plays a role in the local environment. It's a great example of the many lakes found in the Canadian province of Ontario.

Where is Little Merrill Lake Located?

This lake is situated in the rural area of Addington Highlands. It's about 12 kilometers (which is about 7.5 miles) northeast of a small community named Gunter. Another community, Cloyne, is located about 18 kilometers (around 11 miles) northwest of the lake. The lake's exact position helps scientists and mapmakers understand its place in the region.

How Big is Little Merrill Lake?

Little Merrill Lake is not huge, but it's a good size! It measures about 1.6 kilometers (which is about 1 mile) in length. Its width is around 0.6 kilometers (or about 0.4 miles). The lake sits at an elevation of 337 meters (about 1,106 feet) above sea level. This elevation tells us how high the lake is compared to the ocean.

The Journey of Water: Inflows and Outflows

Water is always on the move, and Little Merrill Lake is part of a flowing system.

Water Coming In (Inflows)

The main stream that flows into Little Merrill Lake is called Merrill Creek. This creek brings water from another lake, Merrill Lake, which is located to the north. Besides Merrill Creek, there are three other smaller streams that also feed into Little Merrill Lake. One comes from the northeast, another from the east (bringing water from Little Mink Lake), and a third from the southeast.

Water Going Out (Outflows)

The water also leaves Little Merrill Lake! Merrill Creek is also the main stream that flows out of the lake, heading southwest. This outgoing water then travels towards another lake called Whitefish Lake.

Little Merrill Lake's Connection to Lake Ontario

The water from Little Merrill Lake has a long journey! After leaving the lake through Merrill Creek, it flows into Partridge Creek. From there, it joins the Skootamatta River, which then flows into the Moira River. Finally, the Moira River empties into the Bay of Quinte. The Bay of Quinte is a part of Lake Ontario near a city called Belleville. This shows how all these different bodies of water are connected, forming a large drainage basin.
