Logan Square is a cool neighborhood in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, USA. It's located in the northwestern part of Center City. This area is bordered by Market Street to the south and Spring Garden Street to the north. To the east, you'll find Broad Street, and to the west, the Schuylkill River.

The neighborhood gets its name from Logan Circle. This circle is one of the five main squares that William Penn planned for Philadelphia long ago. It was first called Northwest Square. Later, it was renamed to honor James Logan, who was a mayor of Philadelphia in the 1700s.

Logan Square is home to many important and interesting spots. Some of these places are so special that they are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. This means they are protected because of their history.

Historic Buildings and Churches

Many buildings in Logan Square have a rich past. These include the Arch Street Presbyterian Church and the Cathedral of Saints Peter and Paul. Other historic buildings are the Bell Telephone Company Building and the Board of Education Building. You can also find the Harris Building and the Insurance Company of North America Building. The Larkin–Belber Building, St. Clement's Protestant Episcopal Church, the Inquirer Building, and the Wesley Building are also on this list.

Logan Square has many fun places to visit. You can explore the Academy of Natural Sciences, which has amazing exhibits about nature. The Barnes Foundation is here too, known for its incredible art collection. If you love science, the Franklin Institute is a must-see, with lots of hands-on activities.

Other notable spots include the Moore College of Art and Design, where creative minds learn. The Parkway Central Library is a huge library with tons of books. The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society is great for plant lovers. You can also see the beautiful Philadelphia Mormon Temple. For outdoor fun, there's Matthias Baldwin Park. The main campus of the Community College of Philadelphia is also located in this neighborhood.

Important City Areas

Several key parts of Philadelphia are found in Logan Square. These include Penn Center and Franklintown. A big part of Philadelphia's main business area, called the central business district, is also located here.

Local School Zones

For younger students, from Kindergarten through eighth grade, the area is part of the Albert M. Greenfield School's zone. After that, all students from Greenfield are assigned to Benjamin Franklin High School. In the past, South Philadelphia High School was the high school for this neighborhood.
