He was even named a "Parade All-American" and the best player in Georgia's 5A division. After high school, he went to Hargrave Military Academy in Chatham, Virginia.
College Career at NC State
From 2010 to 2013, Lorenzo played as a 6-foot-5 guard for NC State. He was a starter in all three seasons. He helped his team reach the NCAA tournament in both 2012 and 2013.
In his junior year, Lorenzo averaged 12.4 points and 4.3 rebounds per game. He also led the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) in assists, with 7.2 per game. Because of his great performance, he was named to the "Second-team All-ACC." Overall in college, he averaged 11.6 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 5.8 assists per game. After his junior year, he decided to enter the 2013 NBA draft.
Professional Basketball Journey
Starting in the NBA and G League
In the 2013 NBA draft, the Minnesota Timberwolves picked Lorenzo Brown as the 52nd overall player. He signed his first professional contract with them but was later waived. He then joined the Springfield Armor in the NBA G League (which was then called the D-League).
Later in 2013, he signed with the Philadelphia 76ers and played his first NBA game. During this time, he also spent time playing for the Delaware 87ers in the G League.
Moving Around the NBA and G League
Lorenzo continued to play for different teams. In 2014, he joined the Grand Rapids Drive in the G League. He was even chosen for the "Futures All-Star team" in the 2015 NBA D-League All-Star Game.
He also had short contracts with the Minnesota Timberwolves again in 2015 and the Phoenix Suns in 2016. He was named an NBA D-League All-Star for a second time in 2016. He also signed with the Detroit Pistons briefly.
Playing Overseas and NBA Return
In 2016, Lorenzo played for the Zhejiang Golden Bulls in the Chinese Basketball Association. He had a strong season there, averaging 24.0 points, 7.4 rebounds, and 5.5 assists per game.
After his time in China, he returned to the G League with the Grand Rapids Drive. In 2017, he signed a special "two-way contract" with the Toronto Raptors. This meant he could play for both the Raptors in the NBA and their G League team, the Raptors 905. He became the first player with past NBA experience to sign such a contract.
