Lupus is a small city in Moniteau County, Missouri, in the United States. In 2020, only 28 people lived there. It is part of the larger Jefferson City metropolitan area.

History of Lupus
Lupus got its name from a Latin word that means "wolf." The city had its own post office starting in 1884. This post office served the community for many years before it closed in 1955.
Geography and Location
Lupus is located in northern Moniteau County, right by the Missouri River. Across the river to the northeast is Boone County.
The city is about 7 miles (11 km) north of Jamestown. Jamestown is where people in Lupus get their mail. The city of Columbia is about 9 miles (14 km) away if you fly like a bird. However, by road, it's about 32 miles (51 km). This is because you have to use Interstate 70 to cross the Missouri River.
According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Lupus covers a total area of about 0.19 square miles (0.49 square kilometers). All of this area is land.

The population of Lupus has changed a lot over the years. In 1910, 164 people lived there. The population grew to 185 in 1930, but it has slowly decreased since then. By 2020, only 28 people lived in Lupus.

Arts and Culture
Lupus is most famous for its annual chili festival. This event happens every autumn and brings in over a thousand people from nearby areas. It's a big celebration for the small city.
The city has also been a filming location for movies. The musical films Tom Sawyer (1973) and Huckleberry Finn (1974) were partly filmed here. Both movies are based on famous novels by Mark Twain.
In 1976, the school of journalism at the University of Missouri published a book about Lupus. The book was called Lupus: portrait of a Missouri river town. It included many photos and told the story of the city and its changing population.
