Moniteau County (/mɒnɪˈtɔː/ mon-IH-taw) is a county in the state of Missouri. In 2020, about 15,473 people lived there. The main town and county seat is California.

The county was started on February 14, 1845. It was named after Moniteau Creek. The word 'Moniteau' comes from a French spelling of Manitou. This is an Algonquian word for the Great Spirit. Moniteau County is also part of the larger Jefferson City area.

Moniteau County covers a total area of about 419 square miles. Most of this area, about 415 square miles, is land. The rest, about 3.8 square miles, is water. This means only a small part (less than 1%) of the county is water.
