Maiden is a town located in North Carolina, a state in the United States. It is found in both Catawba and Lincoln counties. In 2020, about 3,736 people lived there.
Maiden is known for a few cool things. Its high school, Maiden High School, was the first public high school in North Carolina to have an observatory for looking at stars! The town is also home to a very large Apple iCloud Data Center. This huge building is about 500,000 square feet (46,000 m2) in size.
Apple has made efforts to power this center with clean energy. They use fuel cells and a large 100-acre (40 ha) solar farm nearby. There's even another 150-acre (61 ha) solar site just 2 miles (3 km) away.

History of Maiden
Maiden became an official town on March 7, 1883. It started as a place for cotton mills and a trading center. The town gets its name from "Maiden Creek," a stream north of the area. Some historians think the name comes from a type of grass called "Maidencane" that grows there.
The town is also proudly known as "The Biggest Little Football Town in the World." This nickname comes from the strong support the community gives to its local high school football team.
Several historic buildings and places in Maiden are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. These include the David F. Propst House, Memorial Reformed Church, and Salem Union Church and Cemetery.
Geography and Location
Maiden is mostly in southern Catawba County, with a small part extending into Lincoln County. A main road, U.S. Route 321 Business, runs through the center of town. It's called Main Street there.
A larger, faster highway, U.S. Route 321, runs southwest of the town. You can get to Maiden from this highway using Exit 33 or Exit 28. From Maiden, it's about 16 miles (26 km) northwest to Hickory and 23 miles (37 km) south to Gastonia.
The town of Maiden covers a total area of about 5.6 square miles (14.5 km2). Most of this area, about 5.5 square miles (14.3 km2), is land. A small part, about 0.077 square miles (0.2 km2), is water.
