Libertarian (until 2019)

Maj Toure (born Martin Anthony Jones) is an American political activist and rapper. He is known for his strong belief in libertarian ideas. This means he thinks people should have a lot of freedom and the government should have less control over their lives.

Toure often says, "All gun control is racist!" He believes that laws controlling guns were originally made to stop Black people from being able to protect themselves.

Maj Toure grew up in North Philadelphia. In 2016, he started a group called Black Guns Matter. This group is a nonprofit organization, which means it works for a cause instead of making money. Black Guns Matter teaches people about their right to own guns. It also promotes safe gun use within African-American and city communities.

He has released three rap/hip hop albums. These are Solutionary Vol. 1 (2005), Solutionary Vol. 2 (2014), and Solutionary Vol. 3 (2016).

In 2019, Toure ran for a seat on the Philadelphia City Council. He ran as a member of the Libertarian Party. He did not win the election.

Toure also spoke at a big political meeting called the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) in February 2019.

In 2021, Toure talked with Lawrence B. Jones. He said he supported people who protested against racism and believed that Black lives are important. However, he also criticized the group Black Lives Matter, Inc.. He called it a "money laundering operation" that "fleeces the black community." He believed it helped Democratic politicians.

Maj Toure's Beliefs and Inspirations

Maj Toure's work is shaped by his belief in personal responsibility. He also believes strongly in self-defense and individual freedom. He looks up to historical figures like Frederick Douglass, Malcolm X, and Harriet Tubman. These leaders fought against unfair treatment and worked to empower people who were not treated equally.

He also gets ideas from thinkers like John Locke, Thomas Paine, and Thomas Jefferson. Their ideas about natural rights, limited government, and protecting individual freedoms are very important to Toure's libertarian views.

Toure argues that modern gun control laws continue a history of unfair treatment based on race. He believes these laws were first made to take away guns from Black Americans. This limited their ability to protect themselves. He thinks these laws still harm minority communities today by making them feel powerless and controlled by the government.

Toure's focus on the Second Amendment (the right to own guns) and self-defense is not just about race. He sees gun ownership as important for all citizens. He believes it helps people stand up against government control if needed.

In his 2021 talk with Lawrence B. Jones, Toure praised people protesting against racism. He agreed that Black lives matter. But he also criticized Black Lives Matter, Inc. He called it a group that uses the Black community for political gain, especially to help Democratic politicians. He believes that real power comes from education, being able to support yourself, and using your constitutional rights. He thinks this is better than relying on political groups that, in his opinion, do not truly help Black Americans.
