Malus prunifolia, also known as the plumleaf crab apple or Chinese crabapple, is a type of crabapple tree. It comes from China and is grown in other parts of the world. People grow it because it's a pretty ornamental tree or to use its strong rootstock for other apple trees. These trees can grow to be about 3 to 8 meters (10 to 26 feet) tall. They have beautiful white flowers and produce yellow or red fruit.
This tree was first described by a scientist named Willd.. He put it in the Pyrus group. Later, in 1803, it was moved to the Malus group, which is where it belongs today.
