Marc Bulger, born on April 5, 1977, is a former American football player. He was a talented quarterback in the National Football League (NFL) for 11 seasons. Most of his career was spent playing for the St. Louis Rams.
Before joining the NFL, Bulger played college football for the West Virginia Mountaineers. He was chosen by the New Orleans Saints in the 2000 NFL draft. He also spent time with the Atlanta Falcons and Baltimore Ravens. However, he played all his regular season games with the Rams.

Professional Football Career
Marc Bulger started his professional journey after being drafted by the New Orleans Saints. He was the 168th player chosen in the 2000 NFL draft. After training camp, he was waived by the Saints.
He then spent a couple of weeks with the Atlanta Falcons on their practice squad. This is a group of players who train with the team but are not on the main roster.
Time with the St. Louis Rams
Bulger joined the St. Louis Rams practice squad in late 2000. He was officially signed by the Rams in January 2001. During his first year with the team, he didn't play in any games. He was the third-string quarterback.
Becoming a Starter in 2002
In 2002, the Rams had a tough start, losing their first five games. Their starting quarterbacks got injured. Bulger stepped in and led the team to a great turnaround. He won six games that he started and finished. The Rams ended the season with a 7–9 record.
Leading the Rams in 2003
Bulger began the 2003 season as a backup. However, he quickly became the main starter. He led the Rams to an impressive 12–4 record. They won their division and even got a first-round bye in the playoffs.
The Rams had a close playoff game against the Carolina Panthers, losing in double-overtime. After this successful season, Bulger was chosen for the Pro Bowl. He was even named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the Pro Bowl game!
Solidifying His Role in 2004
Bulger's strong performance in 2003 made him the Rams' permanent starting quarterback. The Rams signed him to a big contract. In 2004, the team finished with an 8–8 record. They made it to the playoffs as a wild-card team.
The Rams won their first playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. However, they lost the next game to the Atlanta Falcons.
Injuries and Challenges (2005-2009)
In 2005, Bulger faced challenges due to injuries. He hurt his right shoulder and missed several games. He was placed on the injured reserve list by the end of the year. Despite the injuries, he had a good passer rating.
In 2006, Bulger set a record. He reached 1,000 completions faster than any other quarterback in NFL history. He did it in just 45 games! This was quicker than famous quarterbacks like Kurt Warner and Peyton Manning.
In 2007, Bulger signed a large contract extension with the Rams. This made him the highest-paid player in the team's history at the time. However, the 2007 season was tough for Bulger and the team. Many players, including Bulger, dealt with injuries. The Rams finished with a 3–13 record.
The 2008 season also brought changes. Bulger briefly lost his starting role but quickly got it back. He continued to play for the Rams, but the team struggled.
In 2009, Bulger was placed on injured reserve again. The Rams had a very difficult season, finishing with only one win. On his 33rd birthday, April 5, 2010, Bulger asked the Rams to release him, and they agreed.
Joining the Baltimore Ravens
On June 23, 2010, Marc Bulger signed a one-year deal with the Baltimore Ravens. He was meant to be the backup quarterback for Joe Flacco. However, Bulger did not play in any games during the 2010 season.
Retirement from Football
Even though some teams were interested in signing him, Marc Bulger decided to retire from football. He announced his retirement on August 2, 2011.

Life After Football
Marc Bulger was born in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He went to Sacred Heart Middle School and Central Catholic High School. His family has a strong sports background.
His father, Jim, played quarterback for Notre Dame. His brother Jim was on the Notre Dame golf team. His sister Kate was chosen to play in the WNBA. His youngest sister Meg was a star guard for West Virginia, his own alma mater.
Marc Bulger is married to Mavis Armbruster, and they have two daughters. As of 2017, he lives in Brentwood, Tennessee.
Since retiring from football, Bulger has taken up the sport of curling. He even played in a professional curling event in 2018. He was part of a team that included another former football player, Jared Allen.
