Mark Chao (Chinese: 趙又廷; Wade–Giles: Chao Yu-t'ing; Pe̍h-ōe-jī: Tiō Iū-têng, born on September 25, 1984) is a talented Taiwanese-Canadian actor and model. He became famous after starring in the TV series Black & White in 2009. For this role, he won the Golden Bell Award for Best Actor, which is a big award in Taiwan.
Mark Chao has also starred in many popular movies and TV shows in China. Some of his well-known works include Monga (2010), Love (2012), Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon (2013), and the TV series Eternal Love (2017).

Early Life and Education
Mark Chao was born in Taipei, Taiwan. His father, Allen Chao, is also a famous actor and TV host.
Mark moved to Canada for his studies. He went to the University of Victoria and earned two degrees. He studied both sociology (the study of how people live in groups) and economics (the study of how money and resources are used). After finishing his studies, he returned to Taiwan to start his acting career.
Acting Career Highlights
Mark Chao began his acting journey in 2009 with the TV drama Black & White. He played a brave and determined police officer. This role quickly made him a star. He even won the Best Actor award for it.
Success in Films
After his TV debut, Mark starred in his first movie, Monga (2010). This film was about gangsters and became very successful in Taiwan. Mark won the Asian Film Award for Best Newcomer for his strong performance in the movie.
His films helped him become well-known in China too.

- In 2012, he starred in Caught in the Web, which was praised by critics. Mark won the Best Actor award for his role in this film.
In 2013, Mark played an ambitious university student in So Young. The same year, he took on the role of the famous detective Di Renjie in Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon. He later played Detective Dee again in Detective Dee: The Four Heavenly Kings (2018).
Mark also starred in Black & White: The Dawn of Justice (2014), which was a sequel to his earlier film. For this role, he won another Best Actor award at the Huading Awards.
In 2015, Mark played the main character, Hu Bayi, in Chronicles of the Ghostly Tribe. This movie was based on a popular novel series about tomb raiding. The next year, he appeared in the Chinese-French movie The Warriors Gate, which was filmed in English.
Return to Television
After focusing on movies for eight years, Mark Chao returned to TV in 2017. He starred in the fantasy romance drama Eternal Love. At first, some people were unsure about his casting. However, his amazing acting quickly won over viewers. The show became a huge hit, and Mark's popularity grew even more. This led to many new acting offers for him. In 2017, he was ranked among the top celebrities on the Forbes China Celebrity 100 list.
More recently, Mark starred in the film Till the End of the World (2018), which was filmed in Antarctica. He also appeared in the period drama film Saturday Fiction (2019). In 2021, he won the Best Actor in a Leading Role award at the 26th Asian Television Awards for his work in Ordinary Glory.
Personal Life
Mark Chao married Chinese actress Gao Yuanyuan in 2014. They first met while working together on the film Caught in the Web. In June 2019, they welcomed their daughter, Rhea Chao, into the world.
