Matthew Raymond Dillon (born February 18, 1964) is an American actor. He has been nominated for important awards like an Academy Award and a Grammy.
Matt Dillon started his movie career in 1979 with Over the Edge. He quickly became a popular "teen idol" by starring in movies like My Bodyguard (1980), Little Darlings (1980), and The Flamingo Kid (1984). He also appeared in three movies based on books by S. E. Hinton: Tex (1982), Rumble Fish (1983), and The Outsiders (1983).
Later, he gained more success in films such as Drugstore Cowboy (1989), To Die For (1995), Beautiful Girls (1996), and the very popular comedy There's Something About Mary (1998). In 2002, he directed his first movie, City of Ghosts. He continued acting in films like Crash (2004), for which he was nominated for an Academy Award. On television, he starred in the series Wayward Pines (2015).

Matt Dillon was born in New Rochelle, New York. His mother, Mary Ellen, was a homemaker, and his father, Paul Dillon, was a portrait painter. Matt grew up in Mamaroneck, New York with his five brothers and sisters. One of his brothers, Kevin Dillon, is also an actor. Matt was raised in a close-knit family.
Career Highlights
Matt Dillon was discovered in 1978 when he was cutting class at Hommocks Middle School. A casting director for the movie Over the Edge saw him and asked him to audition. This led to his first movie role. Even though Over the Edge was a small film, it helped him get noticed.

In 2002, Matt Dillon tried something new: he wrote and directed a movie called City of Ghosts, where he also starred alongside James Caan.
