Mayo, Florida is a small town in Florida, United States. It is the only municipality in Lafayette County. Mayo is also the county seat, which means it is where the county's government offices are located. In 2020, about 1,055 people lived in Mayo.

History of Mayo
Early Settlement and Naming
The area where Mayo is located was first settled in 1874 by a person named John B. Whitfield. The town was named after James M. Mayo. He was a colonel in the Confederate States Army. Mayo officially became an incorporated town in 1903. This means it became a recognized local government.
A Fun Name Change
In August 2018, Mayo did something very unusual. The town temporarily changed its name to "Miracle Whip". This was a publicity stunt to advertise the Kraft Heinz brand. It was a fun way to get people talking about the town!
