Mendon is a small town located in Rutland County, Vermont, in the United States. In 2020, about 1,149 people lived there. It's a quiet place with a rich history and beautiful natural surroundings.

Mendon's History
Mendon has had a few different names over the years! It was first given a charter in February 1781 and called "Medway."
Later, in November 1804, the town added more land and was renamed "Parkerstown." Finally, in November 1828, it got its current name, "Mendon."
In 2011, a big storm called Hurricane Irene caused a lot of flooding in Vermont. Mendon was one of thirteen towns that became cut off because of the high water.
Mendon's Location and Nature
Mendon covers an area of about 38.1 square miles (98.7 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a tiny bit of water.
A special place in Mendon is Aitken State Forest. This forest covers about 918 acres (3.7 square kilometers). It's a great spot for outdoor activities! You can find a hiking trail that goes up Bald Mountain, which is 2,090 feet high.
People also enjoy hunting, camping, cross-country skiing, and snowmobiling in the forest. The famous Appalachian Trail and Long Trail also pass through the southeast part of Mendon, close to the top of Killington Peak.
