Middle Creek is a small river, also called a tributary, that flows into the Tahltan River. It's part of a bigger river system called the Stikine River watershed in the northwest part of British Columbia, Canada. A watershed is an area of land where all the water drains into a single river or lake.
This creek flows south for about 15 km (9.3 mi). It joins the Tahltan River about 10 km (6.2 mi) north of a place called Tahltan, British Columbia. The area of land that Middle Creek drains is about 49.6 km2 (19.2 sq mi). The amount of water flowing in it each year is about 0.449 m3/s (15.9 cu ft/s).
Middle Creek's mouth (where it joins the Tahltan River) is located about 20 km (12 mi) north of Telegraph Creek, British Columbia. It's also about 75 km (47 mi) southwest of Dease Lake, British Columbia. The land around Middle Creek is mostly covered by shrubs (45.2%), conifer forests (30.8%), and mixed forests (21.4%).
The land where Middle Creek flows is the traditional home of the Tahltan First Nation people.
Where Middle Creek Starts
Middle Creek begins on the southeast side of a huge shield volcano called Level Mountain. This is about 35 km (22 mi) south-southeast of Meszah Peak. Meszah Peak is the highest point in the Level Mountain Range.
From its starting point, Middle Creek flows south. It passes through wetlands and a forested canyon before reaching the Tahltan River. Middle Creek has a main smaller stream, or tributary, called Riley Creek. Riley Creek joins Middle Creek close to where Middle Creek meets the Tahltan River.
