Michael Robert Conway, born on August 19, 1983, is a talented British race car driver. He competes in the FIA World Endurance Championship with Toyota Racing. Mike has achieved great success in endurance racing, winning two FIA World Endurance Championship titles. He also won the famous 24 Hours of Le Mans race in 2021 and 2026, both with Toyota. Before his endurance racing career, Mike was a test driver for Honda in Formula One. He also won several races in the IndyCar Series from 2009 to 2014 and briefly raced in Formula E.

Mike Conway's Early Racing Days
Mike Conway grew up in Bromley, London. He started school at Sevenoaks Prep School.
From Karts to Formula 3
Mike began his racing journey at just eight years old. He started in karting at Rye House. He quickly became a champion, winning the Formula A British Karting title. After karts, he moved on to race in Formula Ford.
In 2004, Mike became the Formula Renault UK Champion. This was a big step in his career. The next year, in 2005, he joined the British F3 International Series. He was the best new driver that year, finishing third overall.
Mike continued to shine in British F3. In 2006, he won the British F3 International Series championship. He also achieved a major victory at the Macau Grand Prix. He was the first British driver to win that Grand Prix since 1999.
Racing in GP2 Series
In June 2006, Mike Conway made his first appearance in the GP2 Series. He raced at Silverstone Circuit. Later that year, he received the National Racing Driver of the Year Award. This was a special recognition for his talent.
Mike raced a full season in GP2 in 2007. He achieved a podium finish at Silverstone. He also became a test driver for the Honda Racing F1 Team in Formula One. In 2008, Mike won his first GP2 race in Monaco. He finished twelfth in the championship that year.
Mike Conway's IndyCar Adventures
In 2008, Mike got to test an IndyCar Series car. He impressed everyone with his speed. Soon after, he joined Dreyer & Reinbold Racing to race full-time in IndyCar in 2009.
Challenges and Triumphs
During the 2010 Indianapolis 500, Mike was involved in a serious crash. He suffered injuries to his leg and back. This meant he had to miss the rest of the racing season to recover.
After his recovery, Mike joined Andretti Autosport for the 2011 season. He achieved his first IndyCar win at Long Beach on April 17, 2011. This was a very exciting moment for him!
In 2012, Mike moved to the A. J. Foyt Enterprises team. He returned to the Indianapolis 500 that year. Later in the season, he earned a third-place finish in Toronto. This was his best result for the year.
Mike later decided he no longer felt comfortable racing on oval tracks. This decision came after his previous injuries. He chose to focus on road courses and street circuits instead. In 2013, he won a race at Belle Isle Park. In 2014, racing for Ed Carpenter Racing, he won the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach and a race at the Honda Indy Toronto.
Mike Conway's Sportscar Career
In 2013, Mike started racing sports cars. He joined G-Drive Racing in the LMP2 class. He and his teammates won four races that year. They finished third in the FIA World Endurance Championship.
Joining Toyota Gazoo Racing
In 2014, Mike became a test and reserve driver for Toyota Gazoo Racing. He scored his first overall sports car win in Bahrain. He also briefly raced in Formula E.
Mike became a full-time driver for Toyota in 2015. In 2016, his team finished second at the Le Mans 24 Hours. They also won their home race at Fuji. The team finished third overall in the championship.

In 2021, a new type of car, the Le Mans Hypercar, was introduced. Mike's team drove the new Toyota GR010 Hybrid. They won races in Monza and Bahrain. Most importantly, Mike, Kamui Kobayashi, and José María López won their first ever 24 Hours of Le Mans race! They also won the World Championship, becoming the first champions in the Hypercar era.
The 2022 season was challenging. Mike's team won in Spa and Bahrain. They finished second at Le Mans. Overall, they placed third in the championship.
In 2023, with many new teams joining, the competition was tougher. Mike's team still started strong, winning in Sebring and Spa. They also triumphed in Monza and Fuji. They finished second in the championship.
Recent Seasons
For the 2024 season, Mike's team had a new driver, Nyck de Vries. Mike unfortunately missed the Le Mans race due to a cycling accident. His former teammate, José María López, filled in for him. Mike returned to racing in São Paulo. The team faced some bad luck with mechanical issues and collisions.
In 2025, Mike and his teammates continued with Toyota. Mike had another cycling accident, causing him to miss a race. However, he returned to help his team secure a comfortable victory at the final race in Bahrain.
In 2026, Mike Conway, Kamui Kobayashi, and Nyck de Vries achieved another incredible victory. They won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for Toyota Racing. This marked Mike's second win at this legendary race.
