Miles Jonathon Austin III (born June 30, 1984) is an American football coach and former wide receiver. He played in the National Football League (NFL) for 10 seasons. Most of his career was with the Dallas Cowboys.
Miles Austin played college football for the Monmouth Hawks. He set a school record for receiving yards there. The Cowboys signed him in 2006 even though he wasn't picked in the draft. He played for them for eight seasons and was chosen for the Pro Bowl twice.
His best season was in 2009. He led the National Football Conference (NFC) in receiving yards. He also set a Cowboys record for the most receiving yards in one game. After leaving the Cowboys, Austin played for the Cleveland Browns and Philadelphia Eagles. After retiring as a player, he became a coach. He worked with the San Francisco 49ers and New York Jets from 2019 to 2022.

Early Life and Sports Talents
Miles Austin was born in Summit, New Jersey. He grew up in Garfield, New Jersey. He went to Garfield High School. Miles was a talented athlete in many sports. He played football, basketball, and was on the track and field team.
In football, he played as a wide receiver and defensive back. In his senior year, he earned honors for being one of the best players in Bergen County and the entire state. He also received honors in basketball.
Miles was also great at track and field. He was good at sprinting, jumping, and throwing. He made one of the longest javelin throws in Bergen County history. He also placed third in the triple jump at a big New Jersey competition.
College Football Career
Miles Austin played college football for the Monmouth Hawks football team. He caught 150 passes for 2,867 yards. He also scored 33 touchdowns. When he left Monmouth, he held the school record for receiving yards. This record was later broken by another player.
In 2003, he set a Monmouth record for the most touchdown catches in a single season with 12. In 2016, Miles Austin was honored by being added to the Monmouth University Athletics Hall of Fame.
Playing in the NFL
Dallas Cowboys Years
Miles Austin joined the Dallas Cowboys in 2006. He was signed as an undrafted free agent, meaning no team picked him in the NFL draft. He was the first player from Monmouth University to play in the NFL. In his first year, he mostly played on special teams, returning kickoffs. He even returned a kickoff for a 93-yard touchdown in a playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks. This was the first kickoff return touchdown in Cowboys playoff history!
In 2007, Austin continued to be the main kickoff returner. He ranked high in the league for his average return yards. He also caught his first pass in an NFL game that year.
The 2008 season was tough for Austin because of knee injuries. But when he played, he showed his talent. He had his first game with over 100 receiving yards and scored his first touchdown.
Breakout Season in 2009
The 2009 season was a huge year for Miles Austin. He became a starting receiver for the Cowboys. In one game against the Kansas City Chiefs, he had 10 catches for 250 yards. This set a new Cowboys record for the most receiving yards in a single game! He also scored two touchdowns, including the winning touchdown in overtime.
Austin continued to play well, scoring many touchdowns. In December 2009, he was chosen for his first Pro Bowl. He finished the season leading the NFC with 1,320 receiving yards. He also tied for the most receiving touchdowns in the NFC with 11.
2010 Season and Beyond

Before the 2010 season, Miles Austin signed a big contract extension with the Cowboys. He continued to play well, catching 69 passes for 1,041 yards and 7 touchdowns. He was chosen for his second Pro Bowl in a row.
The 2011 season started strong for Austin. He had a career-best game with 3 touchdowns and 143 yards against the San Francisco 49ers. However, hamstring injuries caused him to miss several games that season.
In 2012, Austin had a good year despite injuries. He caught 66 passes for 943 yards and 6 touchdowns. He scored a key touchdown in a win against the Super Bowl champions, the New York Giants.
The 2013 season was challenging for Austin. He continued to struggle with hamstring injuries. He missed five games and his playing time was limited. In March 2014, the Cowboys decided to release him.
Cleveland Browns
In 2014, Miles Austin signed with the Cleveland Browns. He became an important player for their young group of receivers. He played in 12 games before a kidney injury ended his season early.
Philadelphia Eagles
In 2015, Austin joined the Philadelphia Eagles. He played in 11 games, catching 13 passes for 224 yards and 1 touchdown. He was released by the Eagles in December 2015.

In 2021, Austin became the wide receivers coach for the New York Jets. He worked with the team's receivers for two seasons. Near the end of the 2022 season, Austin was suspended for violating an NFL policy.
Personal Life
Miles Austin married Stacy Sydlo in 2014. They have three children together.
In 2018, Austin went back to Monmouth University to finish his college degree. He graduated in 2019 with a degree in political science. In 2020, he was elected to serve on Monmouth's board of trustees.
Austin also started a non-profit organization called "The Austin Family Foundation Inc." Its goal is to help student athletes reach their full potential.
