Millbrook is a small village located near Stalybridge in northwest England. It is part of the Stalybridge South ward within the Tameside metropolitan borough.
This village played a big part in the Industrial Revolution. As its name suggests, several cotton mills once stood in and around Millbrook. Bottomleys mill was one of the first ever mills to use steam power.
Millbrook's Past
A Village Through Time
Like most of Stalybridge, Millbrook is located within the historic county boundaries of Cheshire. It was once part of the Staley Local Board. In 1881, Millbrook became part of the municipal borough of Stalybridge. A municipal borough is a type of local government area.
The entire borough then became part of the administrative county of Cheshire in 1888. An administrative county is a larger area used for local government. Since 1974, Stalybridge, including Millbrook, has been part of the metropolitan county of Greater Manchester.
