The Mirfield Show is a super fun yearly event! It happens every August on the third Sunday in Mirfield, West Yorkshire, England. The show takes place at the Huddersfield Road Showground.

The Mirfield Agricultural Show Society (MAS) puts on the show. It's a not-for-profit event, meaning it's for the community, not just to make money. Lots of people, usually over 6,000, come to visit each year!

What to See at the Show

The showground is right near Mirfield town centre. It's next to Crowlees Junior and Infant School. You can also find Mirfield Memorial Park nearby. This park is home to local cricket clubs.

The showground is about 5.5 acres big. It often hosts local football games and other fun events. The annual Mirfield Charity Bonfire is also held here.

Main Rings and Attractions

The Mirfield Show has two main areas for activities. These are called the rings.

The Main Ring is where the big events happen. In the morning, you can watch the Horse & Pony Show. The afternoon brings exciting main attractions. These have included cool dog shows and amazing bird of prey displays. You might see duck herding or racing terriers. Sometimes, there are even classic car displays!

The Main Ring also hosts fun competitions. You can watch tug of war teams battle it out. There are also children's races and the famous Bush Tucker Challenge.

The Dog Ring is another popular spot. This ring is just for dogs! Here, you can watch and join in the Fun Dog competitions.

The Marquee Tent

The big marquee tent is a very important part of the show. It's where many different animals and plants are displayed. You can see rabbits, pigeons, and beautiful flowers. There are also amazing vegetables on show. Everyone competes for the Best in Show awards. An extra part of the marquee is for craft stalls. Here, you can find unique handmade items.

Show History

The Mirfield Show has a long and interesting history. It started a long time ago.

The First Show in 1944

The very first Mirfield Show happened in 1944. This was during World War II. The idea was "to bring a little sunshine into the wartime lives of local people." Colonel James Walker was the president. Councillor J H Barraclough opened the show. He was the chairman of Mirfield UDC. The show was very popular in the early 1960s. But after some years, it stopped happening.

The Show Returns in 1995

In 1995, the Mirfield Agricultural Society was created. This group brought the show back to life! The show started again on Sunday, August 20, 1995.

The new show featured duck herding and a tug of war. There was also a display from Mirfield Martial Arts Club. Over the years, many new and exciting things have been added. These include sheep shearing and dog agility skills. You might see motorbikes and majorettes. There are also birds of prey and fire service displays. Giant shirehorses and children's puppet shows have also been part of the fun.

In 2003, the show almost didn't happen because there weren't enough exhibitors. In 2006, there were plans to build on the showground. But the show kept going! In 2007, even with bad weather, lots of people came. Many events had record numbers of entries.
