Moel Eilio is a cool mountain located in Snowdonia, a beautiful national park in North Wales. It stands about 3 miles (5 kilometers) north-west of Snowdon, which is the highest mountain in Wales! Moel Eilio is 726 meters (2,382 feet) tall, making it a great peak to explore.
This mountain has two smaller peaks, or "tops," nearby. They are called Foel Gron and Foel Goch (Eilio). The name "Moel Eilio" means "Eilio's hill" in the Welsh language.
Weather on the Mountain
The weather on Moel Eilio can be quite chilly! The average temperature throughout the year is about 6 degrees Celsius (43 degrees Fahrenheit).
During the winter, Moel Eilio often gets a lot of snow. Its slopes are fairly flat and covered in grass, which means snow can pile up easily. It looks really pretty when it's covered in a white blanket!
Climbing Moel Eilio
Many people enjoy hiking up Moel Eilio. One popular way to climb it starts from a town called Llanberis.
From Llanberis, hikers follow a path that goes through a place called Bwlch y Groes. Then, they climb up the northern side, or "ridge," of the mountain. It's a fun adventure for those who love to hike!
The Moel Eilio Ridge
Moel Eilio isn't just a single mountain. It's part of a curved line of peaks, also known as a ridge. This ridge includes Moel Eilio, Foel Gron, Foel Goch, and Moel Cynghorion.
This ridge stretches generally southwest, heading towards the famous Snowdon mountain. For experienced hikers, following this ridge can be a less common but exciting way to reach the top of Snowdon. It offers amazing views along the way!
