Montbéliard is a city in eastern France. It is located in the northern part of the Doubs department, which is a division of the Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region. Montbéliard is about 13 kilometers (8 miles) from the border with Switzerland.
This city is important because it is a "subprefecture." This means it is the main city for a smaller area called an "arrondissement." Montbéliard is the capital of the Arrondissement of Montbéliard. It is also the second largest city in the Doubs department, after Besançon.
