Monte Harrison's Sports Journey

Early Life and High School Sports

Monte Harrison grew up in Lee's Summit, Missouri. He was a talented athlete in high school. At Lee's Summit West High School, he played three different sports. He was great at football, baseball, and basketball.

In his senior year of football, he caught 60 passes for over 1,000 yards. He also scored 13 receiving touchdowns. Monte was a top player in both football and baseball. Many colleges wanted him to play football for them.

He decided to commit to the University of Nebraska–Lincoln for football in 2013. However, his path took a different turn when baseball teams showed interest.

Baseball Career

Monte Harrison was a highly-rated baseball prospect. He chose to start a professional baseball career after high school.

Starting with the Brewers

The Milwaukee Brewers picked Monte in the second round of the 2014 Major League Baseball draft. He signed with them on June 14, 2014. He started playing for their minor league team, the Arizona League Brewers.

In his first season, he hit for a .261 batting average. He also stole 32 bases, which means he was very fast! Over the next few years, he played for different Brewers minor league teams. These included the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers and the Carolina Mudcats.

In 2017, he had a great year. He hit 21 home runs and stole 27 bases.

He continued to play well in the minor leagues. In 2018, he hit 19 home runs and stole 28 bases for the Jacksonville Jumbo Shrimp. In 2019, he played for the New Orleans Baby Cakes. He was even chosen for the 2019 All-Star Futures Game.

Monte made his big league debut with the Marlins on August 4, 2020. He played in 32 games that year. He also played in the playoffs with the Marlins.
