Moolah Beach was an exciting reality TV show for teenagers. It was like a teen version of Survivor. Kids competed in challenges on a beautiful beach. The goal was to avoid being "exiled" and win a big cash prize of $25,000! The show aired on Fox Kids and Fox Family in 2001. There were 6 episodes, and J.D. Roth was both the host and a producer.
The show was filmed on Pilaa Beach near Hanalei on the island of Kauai's North Shore. After the series ended, a special reunion episode aired. The contestants talked about their experiences and what they were doing. While a new season was planned, it never happened. However, the show's idea later became the series Endurance.

Twelve contestants joined Moolah Beach. They were divided into six teams of two. Each team had one boy and one girl. Here are the teams:

How the Game Worked
The show had a unique format with different challenges and a special way to find the winner.
Starting the Adventure
At the start, the 12 kids were paired into six teams. A challenge decided who picked their partner. Host J.D. Roth then showed the "Idol Village." This village had 13 idols, each representing a Hawaiian god. One of these idols secretly held the $25,000 grand prize.
Types of Missions
There were two main types of challenges on Moolah Beach: Makahiki Missions and Kahuna Missions.
Makahiki Missions
Makahiki Missions tested the teams' physical strength and endurance. The winning team got to choose two idols from the village that hadn't been picked yet. They also received a clue. This clue hinted at an idol that did NOT contain the grand prize. There were four clues in total throughout the game.
Kahuna Missions
Kahuna Missions were skill-based games. Teams competed to win "offerings," which were colored markers. These offerings helped them stay in the game. The first-place team earned 10 offerings. The second-place team got 5. Other teams received fewer offerings, with each team getting one less than the one before them.
The Great Kahuna
After a Kahuna Mission, teams visited "The Great Kahuna." They brought their offerings. All the offerings were mixed up, and one was drawn. If a team's offering was drawn, they were safe and stayed in the game. Their remaining offerings were then removed. This process continued until only one team's offerings were left. That team was "exiled" from the game. If an exiled team owned any idols, they chose which remaining team would get their idols.
The Grand Finale
In the finale, the 13 idols were split between the last two teams. J.D. Roth offered the team with more idols a "bribe." This bribe was a set of prizes if they gave some of their idols to the other team. J.D. kept adding more prizes until the leading team accepted or five prizes were offered. If they refused, the trailing team got a similar offer, possibly with more prizes and having to give up fewer idols. The team that accepted the bribe kept the prizes, even if they didn't win the $25,000.
After a bribe was accepted or both teams refused, J.D. revealed the answers to the four idol clues. Then, he showed which other idols did NOT have the $25,000. When only one idol was left for each team, they went to the Great Kahuna for keys. Both idols were opened at the same time. The team whose idol held the $25,000 won the grand prize!
In the only season of Moolah Beach, the Green Team (Kyle and Shari) accepted the bribe. The Purple Team (Summer and Clark) had more idols and refused the first offer. Kyle and Shari were offered the bribe with an extra prize: an ATV. They accepted. Kyle and Shari each received all the prizes from the bribe.
The winning idol was "Hula," and Kyle and Shari never had it. Summer and Clark won because Clark's friend Drew gave them the Hula idol when his team was eliminated. J.D. Roth, as host and producer, knew which idol held the money from the start.
Bribe Prizes
The prizes offered in the bribe were:

Episode Guide
Here's a quick look at what happened in each episode:
Episode 1: Teams Formed
The first challenge was the Pakana Ball mission. Xavier was first to grab an idol and chose Chasati for the Blue Team. Drew picked Nancy for Red. A.J. chose Brittany for Yellow. Summer, the only girl to grab an idol, picked Clark for Purple. Kyle chose Shari for Green. Jacob and Chloe became partners by default, forming the Orange Team.
Episode 2: First Exile
In the Makahiki Mission, teams hung onto a spinning pole while being sprayed with water. Kyle was the last one on, making the Green Team the winners. They chose the Warrior and Strength idols. The Kahuna Mission was "Rock the Boat." Everyone teamed up against the Blue Team, who came in last. The Great Kahuna then exiled the Blue Team, Chasati and Xavier, from the beach.
Episode 3: Orange Team Leaves
Summer and Clark (Purple Team) won the Kukini obstacle course, a Makahiki Mission. They chose the Shark and Beach idols. Kyle and Shari (Green Team) won the Hula Bridge Kahuna Mission, where boys helped partners across water. Jacob and Chloe (Orange Team) finished last. The Great Kahuna exiled the Orange Team from Moolah Beach.
Episode 4: A Surprise Exit
The Purple Team won the "X Marks the Spot" Makahiki Mission, climbing a rope bridge. They chose the Hurricane and Sun idols, now having four. The Green Team won the Ula Maika Kahuna Mission, racing in huge plastic balls. The Red Team came in last. Everyone thought Red would be exiled, but surprisingly, the Great Kahuna exiled the Yellow Team instead!
Episode 5: Red Team Exiled
The last Makahiki Mission was "Rope House," where teams built a "house" with rope. Green won and chose the Ocean and Fish idols. Red came in second and picked the Hula idol. The final Kahuna Mission was "Shark Bait," where teams hung onto posts over water. Green won again. The Great Kahuna exiled the Red Team. Nancy and Drew gave their Hula idol to the Purple Team.
Episode 6: The Grand Prize
The Green and Purple Teams found the last four idols in a treasure hunt called "Search for the Lost Idols." Each team won two. Purple chose Canoe and Volcano, leaving Green with Fire and Thunder. Purple now had seven idols, and Green had six. In the "Temptation of the Spirits," J.D. offered Purple prizes to give three idols to Green, but they said no. J.D. then offered more prizes to Green if they gave up two idols. Green accepted and gave Fire and Thunder to Purple. Purple won the $25,000, which was hidden inside the Hula idol!
Episode 7: The Reunion
All 12 contestants returned to talk about their time on the show. They answered questions from the audience and shared what they had been doing since the series ended.
