Mora IK (which stands for Mora Ishockeyklubb) is a professional ice hockey team from Mora, a town in northern Dalarna, Sweden. This team plays in the HockeyAllsvenskan, which is Sweden's second-highest ice hockey league.
Mora IK has played many seasons in the top Swedish leagues. They have been in the highest league 25 times. This includes four seasons when the league was called Elitserien. The team reached the Swedish Championship finals only once, in 1950. They lost that game to Djurgårdens IF with a score of 7–2. Mora IK has been part of the top two Swedish hockey leagues since the 1944–45 season.

Team History: Mora IK's Journey
Mora IK was started in 1935. In 1945, the club played in Sweden's top ice hockey league for the first time. They made it to their first and only Swedish Championship final in 1950.
Moving Between Leagues
For many years, Mora IK often moved between the top league and the second league. This is sometimes called being a "yo-yo club." In 1966, they stayed in the top league, Division 1, for nine seasons in a row. This is still their longest time in Sweden's top league.
In 1975, a new top league called Elitserien was created. Mora IK did not qualify for this new league. They continued to play in Division 1, which became the second-tier league. They stayed there for 29 years until 2004. That year, they finally earned a spot in Elitserien for the first time.
Playing with NHL Stars
During the 2004–05 NHL lockout, many players from the NHL in North America could not play. Mora IK took this chance to sign several NHL players. These included Shawn Horcoff, Daniel Cleary, and brothers Marian Hossa and Marcel Hossa. With these strong players, Mora IK finished 9th that season. This was a good result for a team that had just moved up to the top league.
Mora IK finished 8th in the 2005–06 and 2006–07 seasons. This allowed them to play in the Swedish Championship playoffs for the first time since 1970. However, they were knocked out in the quarterfinals both times. In the 2007–08 Elitserien season, Mora finished 11th. This meant they had to play in a special tournament called Kvalserien to stay in Elitserien. They finished 4th in that tournament and moved back down to HockeyAllsvenskan.
Return to the Top League
During the 2012–13 NHL lockout, more NHL stars joined Mora IK. Bobby Ryan from the Anaheim Ducks and Anze Kopitar from the Los Angeles Kings played for the team. Anze Kopitar even played with his brother, Gašper.
After nine years in the second league, Mora IK made it back to the top league. In the 2017 SHL qualifiers, they beat their local rivals Leksands IF 4–2 in games. This earned them a spot in the top league. The games between Mora IK and Leksands IF are known as Siljansderbyt, or the Siljan derby.
Mora IK faced Leksands IF again in the 2019 SHL qualifiers. Mora had finished 13th in the regular season. They lost to Leksand 4–1 in games. This meant Mora IK was moved down to HockeyAllsvenskan, and Leksand took their spot in the SHL.
