Discover Morphettville
Morphettville is a cool place with different parts. The northern part of the suburb is mostly taken up by the Morphettville Racecourse. This is a big track where horseracing events happen.
Right next to the racecourse, but in the nearby suburb of Glengowrie, is a special building. This building is called the tram barn. It's where the Glenelg tram line trams are stored and fixed. It opened in October 1986.
The southern part of Morphettville is mostly where homes are. The Sturt River flows through this area. It starts in the south and moves towards the northwest.
How Morphettville Got Its Name
Both the suburb of Morphettville and the racecourse are named after an important person from early South Australian history. His name was Sir John Morphett.
Sir John Morphett was a very important early settler. He was a member of the South Australian Legislative Council, which was like a part of the government that helped make laws for the area.
