Mount Colin is a tall mountain peak in Jasper National Park, Alberta, Canada. It stands 2,687-metre (8,816-foot) high. This mountain is part of the Colin Range, which is a smaller group of mountains within the larger Canadian Rockies.
Mount Colin is located about 15 km (9.3 mi) northeast of the town of Jasper. It's a very noticeable landmark in the Athabasca Valley. You can easily see it from Highway 16 and even from the Canadian passenger train. The closest taller mountain is Sirdar Mountain, located 15 km (9.3 mi) to the southeast.
The mountain was named in 1859 by James Hector. He named it after Colin Fraser. Colin Fraser worked for the Hudson's Bay Company and was in charge of Jasper House for many years. He was also a personal helper to Sir George Simpson, a very important person in the Hudson's Bay Company. The name "Mount Colin" was officially recognized in 1956 by the Geographical Names Board of Canada.
Weather at Mount Colin
Mount Colin has a subarctic climate. This means it has very cold, snowy winters and mild summers. Temperatures can often drop below -20 °C (which is -4 °F). With the wind chill, it can feel even colder, sometimes below -30 °C (-22 °F).
If you want to visit or climb Mount Colin, the best months are usually from June through September. During these months, the weather is more pleasant. All the rain and melted snow from Mount Colin flows into the Athabasca River.
