Mount Doublehead is a cool twin-peaked mountain located in eastern New Hampshire, United States. It's found in the town of Jackson, within Carroll County. This mountain is part of the amazing White Mountains range.

Doublehead has two main peaks. The North Doublehead peak stands tall at 3,053 feet (930.5 meters) above sea level. The South Doublehead peak is a bit shorter, reaching 2,939 feet (895.8 meters) high.

Where the Water Flows

Mount Doublehead is part of the watershed of the Saco River. This means that all the rain and snow that falls on the mountain eventually flows into this river. The Saco River then travels all the way to the Gulf of Maine, which is part of the Atlantic Ocean.

Music Inspired by Doublehead

Did you know a famous composer wrote music about this mountain? In 1934, an American composer named Alan Hovhaness (1911–2000) created a piano piece called Fog on Mount Double Head. As a young person, Hovhaness often climbed in the White Mountains. These adventures clearly inspired his music!

Another Doublehead Mountain

It's good to know there's another mountain with a similar name! South of the White Mountains, you can find Doublehead Mountain (elevation 2,158 feet or 657.8 meters). This one is in Sandwich, New Hampshire, also in Carroll County. It's part of the Squam Mountains and overlooks beautiful Squam Lake.
