Mount Gass is a tall mountain found right on the border between Alberta and British Columbia in Canada. It's part of the amazing Rocky Mountains and sits on the Continental Divide, which is like a natural line where rivers on one side flow to one ocean, and rivers on the other side flow to a different ocean!

About Mount Gass

Mount Gass stands very tall at 2,865 meters (about 9,400 feet) high. It has two main peaks, and the one furthest south is the very highest point. Imagine standing on top and seeing views stretching across two provinces!

How Mount Gass Got Its Name

This impressive mountain was given its name in 1928. It was named after someone called L.H. Gass. Mountains are often named after important people, explorers, or events connected to the area.

A Mountain of Treasures: The Discovery of Minerals

In 1948, something very exciting happened on Mount Gass. A man named King Bearpaw, who was a Stoney Indian, went exploring with Bill Watt. They were "prospecting," which means they were looking for valuable minerals in the ground.

They noticed some unusual-looking rocks on the eastern peak of the mountain. After checking them out, they made an amazing discovery! They found rocks containing lead, silver, zinc, and even a small amount of shiny gold. This shows that mountains can hold many hidden treasures beneath their surface.
