Who Was Sir Clifford Sifton?
Mount Sifton is named after Sir Clifford Sifton (1861–1929). He was an important Canadian politician who served as the Minister of the Interior from 1896 to 1905. This role meant he was in charge of managing Canada's vast lands and natural resources. The mountain's name was officially adopted in 1906 and confirmed again in 1932.
Mountain Weather
Mount Sifton is in a subarctic climate zone. This means it has very cold and snowy winters. Temperatures can drop below −20 °C (which is −4 °F), and with wind, it can feel even colder. Summers are usually mild.
All the water from the mountain, including melted snow and ice from nearby glaciers, flows into smaller streams. These streams eventually join the Beaver River and the Illecillewaet River.
