What is Mount Somolenko?

Mount Somolenko is a special kind of mountain called a volcano. It is not currently erupting, but it was formed by volcanic activity long ago. It is part of a group of volcanoes known as the Cascade Volcanic Arc.

Where is Mount Somolenko Located?

This mountain is found in the beautiful province of British Columbia, Canada. It sits within a large, bowl-shaped area. This area is called the Silverthrone Caldera.

Understanding the Silverthrone Caldera

A caldera is like a giant hollow or basin. It forms when a volcano erupts very powerfully and then collapses inward. Imagine a huge underground magma chamber emptying out. The ground above it then sinks down, creating a big depression. The Silverthrone Caldera is a circular volcanic depression. Mount Somolenko is located right inside this interesting natural feature.
