Naseeruddin Shah (born 20 July 1950) is a famous Indian actor. He has starred in many Indian and international movies. He is known for his work in "parallel cinema," which means movies that are more artistic and realistic.
Naseeruddin Shah has won many awards for his acting. These include three National Film Awards and three Filmfare Awards. He also won the Volpi Cup for Best Actor at the Venice Film Festival. The Indian government has honored him with the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awards. These are two of India's highest civilian honors.
In 1982, he married actress Ratna Pathak. She is also a well-known actress. They have two sons together.

Early Life and Education
Naseeruddin Shah was born on July 20, 1950. He was born in a town called Barabanki in Uttar Pradesh, India. His family was a Nawab family.
He went to school at St. Anselm's Ajmer and St Joseph's College, Nainital. Later, he studied arts at Aligarh Muslim University. He also trained at the National School of Drama in Delhi. This is a very famous acting school.
His older brother, Zameerud-din Shah, was a high-ranking officer in the army. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University.
Acting Career
Naseeruddin Shah started his acting career in the 1970s. He appeared in many important films. Some of his early movies include Nishant, Aakrosh, and Sparsh. He also had a small role in the 1967 film Aman.
He became more active in mainstream Bollywood movies in the 1980s. His film Hum Paanch came out in 1980. In 1983, he starred in the popular movie Masoom. Another big success was Karma in 1986. In this film, he acted alongside the legendary actor Dilip Kumar.
Shah also played Inspector Ghote in the English film The Perfect Murder. He acted with his wife, Ratna Pathak, in this movie. In 1994, he played the villain in Mohra. This was his 100th film as an actor.
He also worked in films from other parts of India. For example, he acted in the Malayalam film Ponthan Mada. In 2000, he played Mahatma Gandhi in the film Hey Ram.
Naseeruddin Shah is known for playing many different types of characters. He played a coach in the film Iqbal. He also starred in Sarfarosh (1999) and A Wednesday (2008).

Naseeruddin Shah was first married to Manara Sikri. They had a daughter named Heeba Shah.
Later, in the 1970s, he met actress Ratna Pathak. She is the daughter of another respected actress, Dina Pathak. Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak acted in several films together. They got married in 1982.
Naseeruddin Shah and Ratna Pathak have two sons, Imaad and Vivaan. Both of their sons are also actors. The family lives in Mumbai.

Autobiography
Naseeruddin Shah has written a book about his life. It is called And Then One Day. He thought about writing it for many years. He finally decided to share his story. The book was published by Hamish Hamilton.
