Erigeron concinnus, also known as the Navajo fleabane, tidy fleabane, or hairy daisy, is a beautiful flowering plant. It is a perennial plant, which means it lives for more than two years. This plant belongs to the large daisy family.

About the Navajo Fleabane

The Navajo fleabane is a type of plant that grows back year after year. It is known for its pretty flowers that look a lot like small daisies. This plant is a native species, meaning it naturally grows in certain areas of North America.

Where It Grows

Erigeron concinnus is found in the dry, mountainous regions of the western United States. It grows in places like the Mojave Desert around Death Valley in southeast California. You can also find it further north and east in states such as Nevada, Idaho, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Colorado, Arizona, and New Mexico.

In California, this plant usually grows at high elevations. It can be found between 1,200 and 1,800 meters (about 3,900 to 5,900 feet) above sea level. Some groups of these plants live inside the Mojave National Preserve, which helps protect them.

What It Looks Like

The Navajo fleabane likes to grow in sandy or rocky soils. It is a relatively small plant, reaching a height of about 6 to 16 centimeters (2 to 6 inches).

Its leaves are usually 2 to 6 centimeters (1 to 2 inches) long. They are shaped like a spear or a narrow oval, widest near the rounded tip.

The plant produces lovely flower heads. These flower heads sometimes grow one per branch. Other times, they can appear in groups of up to six. Each flower head is small, about 7 to 11 millimeters (0.3 to 0.4 inches) across. They have many petals, called ray florets, which can be white, pink, or blue. In the center of the flower, there are small yellow parts called disk florets.

Different Types of Navajo Fleabane

Scientists have identified a few different varieties of Erigeron concinnus. These varieties are slightly different forms of the same plant species.
