Nax is a charming village located in the Valais canton of Switzerland. It used to be its own municipality, which is like a local government area. On January 1, 2011, Nax joined with two other nearby villages, Vernamiège and Mase. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Mont-Noble. Nax is found in the Hérens district.

A Glimpse into Nax's Past
Nax has a long history! It was first written about between the years 1001 and 1100. Back then, it was known as Nas. A sad event happened in 1909 when the village church collapsed during a service. This accident caused many injuries and some people lost their lives.

Nax covers an area of about 24.5 square kilometers (about 9.5 square miles). A big part of this land, around 33.1%, is used for farming. Forests cover another large section, about 31.7% of the area.
About 3.2% of Nax's land has buildings or roads. A small amount, 0.4%, is made up of rivers or lakes. The remaining 31.4% is unproductive land, meaning it's not used for farming or building.
Nax is located at the entrance to the Hérens valley. It sits near a rocky cliff, which might be how it got its name. The word nasus in Latin means "nose," possibly referring to this prominent rock formation.

A coat of arms is a special design that represents a family, town, or country. Nax has its own unique coat of arms. It shows a green pine tree growing from green hills. On either side of the tree, there are two silver deer standing up and facing each other. Above them, in the blue sky, are two golden stars and a golden bird flying.
