Exploring Nelsons Plains Geography
Nelsons Plains has a unique shape, like a wedge. A road called Seaham Road cuts right through the middle of it. The narrowest part of the wedge is where the Williams River meets the Hunter River.
Low-Lying Areas and Flooding
Much of Nelsons Plains is very close to the river level. Some parts are less than 2 meters (about 6.5 feet) above the water. This means the area can flood when there are heavy rains, like what happened in June 2007.
Even though some areas are higher, reaching up to 42 meters (about 138 feet), other parts quickly slope down. This makes many sections of Nelsons Plains prone to flooding.
